Austen Bujnoch became the fifth commitment for the 2009 Cincinnati recruiting
class when he selected the Bearcats in June for his college selection. The 6’5”
265 lbs offensive tackle from nearby Cincinnati
Elder High
School is rated the 37th best prospect in Ohio among seniors this
year.

Austen Bujnoch told us recently why
he has been able to control both offensive and defensive lines when he plays
against them. “I think my best attribute as a player is my desire to win as a
team. Win as a team; lose as a team, no individuals.” One of his favorite team
moments was when Elder defeated Independence
in 2007. “The highlight of my high school career would be beating Independence
High School last year, snapping their 109 game winning streak.” He said.
Team Player First
Tackles do not earn too many
statistics but Bujnoch was able to provide one tackle early in the 2008 season
for the Panthers. “No statistics this year except a tackle against St.Thomas
Aquinas.”
A Number of Good
Offers
Ending his
recruitment early, Bujnoch didn’t spend much time visiting the many programs
that offered him a scholarship. “No true college visits, I just knew that Cincinnati was perfect
fit for me. I was looking for a college that was on the rise and that I could
play as early as possible. I wanted to play for a winning team but also I
wanted to get a good education.”
Among the
top colleges seeking a commitment from Bujnoch were West
Virginia, Notre Dame and Cincinnati.
“There have been a lot of schools to show interest, the major ones being
Cincinnati, UConn, Louisville, West Virginia, Notre Dame, NC State, and others.”
He explained about the offers that he received.

But all the
offers could not offset the love he has for his college football team and the
coaching staff at the University
of Cincinnati. “I just
love how UC is a rising program and has the potential to compete for a national
championship!”
