Quarterback Depth a Serious Interest for the Buckeyes

Quarterback Depth a Serious Interest for the Buckeyes

After not getting a commitment from 2009 dual threat quarterback Tajh Boyd tonight, the Ohio State coaching staff switched to Plan B and offered in-state State Championship quarterback Austin Boucher from Archbishop Alter High School. At 6-0, 197 lbs, Boucher has demonstrated the ability to play well within a similar offense to what the Buckeyes run. He will need to make a college selection prior to February 5th, National Signing Day for the 2009 class. Ohio State is looking for additional depth at quarterback after losing two quarterbacks to transfer last spring.

Tough Spot for the Buckeyes

With Terrelle Pryor being the best recruit in the country for the 2008 class, his great freshman season, and his likely position as the Ohio State starting quarterback for the next two seasons, finding another quarterback to sign into the 2009 class is a difficult task. Most top notch quarterbacks want to have the opportunity to play within one or two years. Whoever sings with the Buckeyes this year will need to sit for two years and then compete for the starting spot in 2011. There is also the possibility the university will sign another quarterback in the 2010 class that is also highly ranked coming out of college. For these reasons Ohio State is looking in-state for a true fan of the team.

Boucher received a call from Ohio State shortly after the team found out Boyd would not be a part of their 2009 class. Boucher is very excited about the offer and is taking the time needed to evaluate his current commitment to Miami (OH) and how his parents feel about his college options. He will want to make a decision prior to National Signing Day on February 5th. He could possibility red-shirt his first year on campus and have three years of eligibility after Pryor has left for the NFL.
