The #1 rated weakside defensive end in the country committed to Notre Dame on February 4th and remains solid with the Irish. The 6'4" 240 lbs prospect with 4.65 speed joined a recovering program that has recruited better than played but improved last season under Charlie Weis. He turned down offers from Oregon, USC, UCLA, California, Georgia, and Nebraska among others. By Steve Patterson When Christ Martin found out his ranking as the 13th best overall recruit in the country on the Rivals 100 list, he was shocked about the high ranking. "First of all I thought the Rivals 100 thing was kind of cool. All the publicity that I had been getting, I kind of knew that I was going to be in it but not as high." He told us recently about his feeling on the ranking. Sophomore Leader Things began to pick up for Martin when he was a sophomore at Bishop O'Dowd School. "I think my sophomore year was when I truly got recognized because that is when my offers came." As a sophomore he gathered 108 tackles with 4 sacks and 2 interceptions. In 2008 as a junior he continued to lead the defense with 115 tackles, 40 tackles for loss, and 4 sacks. Solid with Notre Dame Some recruits commit to a school but keep their options open. Martin is not one of those prospects. He has committed to Notre Dame and is solid with the Irish. "As far as colleges lately , none have come by as they know that I am firm to Notre Dame." He explained to us about college coaches coming to his high school or inviting him to their campus. He likes the Irish for the comfort level he has with the coaching staff and the players. "I like Notre Dame basically because its like my second family and I feel like that's where I can spend four to five years of my life there." |
