Boynton Jr. to help fill Calathes departure

Boynton Jr. to help fill Calathes departure
With the expected departure of point-guard Nick Calathes came the lack of surprise in the signing of All-American Kenny Boynton Jr. The 6’ 3” Boynton could be assigned point guard duties considering that the Gators are down to 5’ 8” sophomore Erving Walker as their only option.
By Paul Kardasz
Boynton, who was recruited as the No. 12 prospect in the Nation, chose Florida over Duke, USC, Georgia Tech, and Texas. He averaged 34.5 points a game with seven rebounds and five assists for American Heritage High in Plantation (FL). According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Boynton could be the most decorated prep player in the history of Broward County (FL), which includes solid NBA players such as Derek Harper, Eddie Jones and Mitch Richmond. He is the state’s third all-time leading scorer with 3,367 points. Walker was chosen as a member of the All-Freshman team with 9.8 points per game off the bench and has the Gators depending on him to have a solid season. But Florida will have to rely on a stronger scorer to fill Calathes’s absence.
