Eddie Turner is a large 6’2” 315lbs offensive tackle/guard out of Memphis Wooddale High School who is looking for tradition in a college selection. The history of the football program and that history creating pressure to compete well is what Turner is looking for when he visits major college programs in the area.

Turner spoke with us recently about what makes him standout as an offensive lineman at the high school level. “My best attribute as a football player is my field awareness. Most of the time I have a knack for being in the right spot.” he explained.

He enjoyed playing against the best in the state during last season. “The highlight of my career must be when I dominated one of top D lineman in the state during my junior year.” he told us. And that isn’t the only player he dominated as he pancaked defensive lineman on a regular basis. “Last year I recorded 53 pancakes with only 2 sacks allowed.”

Some of the schools in the area in addition to MAC and Big East programs are pursuing him for a college commitment. “I have made visits to the University of Alabama, Mississippi State and Memphis. All of those visits were very welcoming and the atmosphere was great.” he reported. And when he was on campus he was looking at the football tradition in addition to other important aspects. “The first thing I am looking for in a college program is tradition.  I want to go to a program that has great history so us players will have the pressure on us to keep it up.”

Old Miss, Illinois, Cincinnati, and Ball State are just a few of the programs he has interest in. “The Schools that have shown me interest are: Miss St., Ole Miss, Duke, Illini, Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, Ball St, Bowling Green,  Army, Navy, Western Kentucky,Louisville and many more.” he told us. And the thing he likes about his favorites are the offensive lineman’s career success. “Their players have gone on to play pro that play my position. I don't care about WRs or QBs. The only thing I think about is the players in my position and their success.”
