Scout.com releases their 2009 Mid-west Hot 100

One thing that doesn’t surprise you when you see the list is that all of Ohio State’s 8 current commits from the class of 2009 are on the list. Johnny Simon is number 3, CJ Barnett is 7, Jordan Whiting is 12, Storm Klein is 15, Chris Fields is 17, Jack Mewhort is 25, Jamie Wood is 29, and Adam Homan is 82. This is a great start to the 2009 class. So far everyone is either from Ohio or from Kentucky (aka Whiting). Add in a dozen top of the list out-of-state recruits to a large 2009 class, and Ohio State can finish in the top 5 nationally once again.

The icing on the cake is the others that could be in the class that are also on the list. Marcus Hall, the Cleveland Glenville offensive tackle, is number 1 on the list. Melvin Fellows, the Garfield Heights Ohio Illinois commit that the Ohio State coaches have been working on hard, is number 11, Chris Watt is 19, and JT Turner, the cornerback out of Painesville Ohio Harvey that is favoring Ohio State, is number 20. Add is those four prospects and Ohio dominates the top of this list.

The one big surprise in the list is Michigan State. Coach Dantonio and his staff are being very aggressive this year in recruiting. They aren’t getting into Ohio so much, but in Michigan they are taking the best and laughing at Rich Rodriguez and his virgin crew. They already have two top 6 running backs in Edwin Baker and Larry Caper. They picked up number 18 linebacker Chris Norman from Detroit Renaissance. And they have two good prospects in wide receiver Donald Spencer and quarterback Andrew Maxwell.
