A Dream Come True for Firestone’s Tommy Brown

A young man from Akron, Ohio is still celebrating after being offered the football scholarship of his dreams at Ohio State University. Tommy Brown is an unmistakable character. At 6`5”, and weighing in at 310 pounds, Tommy has shined as an offensive linesman and defensive tackle for his high school team - the Firestone Falcons – and has been courted not only by OSU, but also Michigan State and a number of Mid-American Conference schools.

Tommy will be following an accounting course for his major, and said that he was attracted to OSU because of the “tradition, history, coaching staff, winning record and that (OSU) is a team I grew up loving.” Firestone Falcons´ football coach, Tim Flossie is equally delighted “Tommy is just a big, athletic and strong kid,” Flossie said. “He has the numbers as far as height, weight and strength that the Big Ten looks for, and he is a hard-working kid.” Tommy can also move very quickly – clocking 5’1 for the 40.

Tommy’s acceptance of OSU´s offer was barely a surprise. He first visited the college as a freshman, and has been in regular touch with the Buckeyes coaching staff ever since his sophomore year. The Buckeyes offensive co-coordinator, Jim Bollman, is very excited by the prospect of having Tommy in his team, and Bollman knows a thing or two about good OLs - having already tutored fifteen linemen currently playing in the NFL, and coaching one of the nation’s most proficient units. Tommy met with Bollman and Buckeyes´ Head Coach, Jim Tressel, last week, and when Tressel told Tommy that he wanted him at Ohio State, Tommy was ready to commit immediately. “I don't even know how to put it” Tommy commented afterwards. “I mean, it was almost overwhelming. My mom was crying - I wanted to scream I was so excited. I've been praying for this for so long. You know I had to go to church today to say thank you,”

When Tommy trades his Falcons green and gold jersey for the Buckeyes´ scarlet and grey, he will form part of one of the most powerful offensive line-ups in university football, but Tommy has no fears about this “It just feels like home to me down there” he declares, and we would like to wish Tommy every success as he strives to write his own piece of history in the great tradition of the Buckeyes.
